It is an important step on the road to Istanbul where the world's attention will be focused on how we will live in the 21 st century. The Conference saw 914 participants from all over the world focus their attention on sustainable solutions towards solving some of most pressing social, economic and environmental problems facing an urbanizing world. As such, the Conference embodied the guiding principle of the City Summit - that of broad-based participation and consult ation. It also provides evidence that the goals of the City Summit can be realized - notably adequate shelter for all and sastainable human settlements in an urbanizing world.
