Résumé :	The city has been ignored for too long. Academics and decision-makers have been working with an incomplete picture of the city. But now that the city is the place where half of the population of Africa is or soon will be living, it is time for a change of approach. It is time to look to the city to see wath the real issues are and what solutions are being found there. A fresh look at the city show a new type of productive society and economy, a hybrid of the modern and the popular. This book shows how urban public goods are no longer simply being produced by archetects, town planners and administrators, but by a host of new actors coming from all sectors of the city, showing a creative imagination and a readiness to act. It show a new urban culture where spontaneous grassroots collective action is changing partnerships and politics, giving new hope for radical positive change. Finally, this book show how the popular urban imagination is producing a new type of co-operative spirit, one which is concrete, dynamic and enterprising.
