The idea for this book originated in the '80s after the senior author realized that many of the newer concepts and ideas about range management and ecology may not apply to conditions in sub-saharan Africa. The social, technical and cultural conditions of these areas are profoundly different from those in developed countries.A major effort since 1980 has been to adapt general principles to the difficult and fragile environments of the Sahel.
In developing this this introductory document, attempts have been made to include practical aspects suitable for Sub-Sahara Africa. For readers interested in pursuing the fundamentals of range science, there are numerous textbooks available. |
