The Tropical Forestry  Action Plan- themain response of the United Nations agencies and hte World Bank to the international problem of tropical deforestation-continues to be hailed as the solution to a  crisis that has now reached global proportions.The plan is designed to coordinate the spending of some US$8 billion of development aid money in the Third World. The governments of no fewer than 73 tropical countries, which between them include some 85% of the world's rainforests are now involved in the process.Yet, as this disturbing new report form the World Rainforest Movement reveals the Tropical Forestry Action Plan is fatally flawed. Far from curbing forest loss, the Plan will accelerate deforestation.
