But the world also faces a climate crisis which has been building over a much longer period of time. If we be not bring to this challenge the same determination and sence of common cause with which we have addressed the economic crisis, not only will the climate catastrophe faced by the scientific community occur, but recovering from it will be an impossibility. Fortunately, the appropriate reponses to the climate crisis can also contribute to long-term economic prospority. Scientists warn that global emissions must peak within a decade or we will face grave consequences particulary in the developing world, where the vaste majority of humanity live in where the vulnerability to climate impacts is greatest. If rising incomes in the developing world are to be achieved through high-emissions growth, such as that pursued by today's developed countries, then our environmental fabric will be stretched to the breaking point. | Permalink : | http://enda-cremed.org/bpd/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=30841 |
