In the region's current phase of economic development. its cities are increasingly expected not only to solve existing problems, but also to take advantage of the opportinities brought about by development. Faced with these challenges, but only limited resources, urban managers need to act more strategically, if the living conditions of urban dwellers are to be improved.#To meet the challenges they face and to bring about the desires changes, local authorities need to work more effectively with partners at other levels of governments, local comminities and the private sector. Doing so requires exploring innovative and participatory approaches that are effective, efficient, equitable and sustainable.#The policy Seminar on Effective Participatory Urban Management was held in response to demand from CityNet members to exchange ideas and experiences on innovative approaches, with a view to finding appropriate solutions to existing problems, as well as taking advantage of the oppotinities which current developments are creating.#
