Ne pas commencer à construire l’équipement, à établir l’infrastructure et à éduquer les gens aux compétences nécessaires à l’ère solaire ne fera qu’augmenter le coût et la perturbation de la transition et diminuer la probabilité de son achèvement dans les cinq décennies.Répondre aux cinq sixièmes du budget énergétique mondial prévu en 2025 avec des technologies solaires pourrait impliquer l’utilisation de plus de 70 milliards de mètres carrés de capteurs solaires et de 7,5 millions de mégawatts de cellules solaires. La capacité hydroélectrique mondiale serait quadruplée, cinq millions d’éoliennes seraient construites et environ 15% des forêts du monde seraient consacrées à la culture du bois en tant que « culture énergétique ».Des engagements de cette ampleur sont certainement possibles au cours d’une période de 50 ans.
Note de contenu : If the transition to a solar-powered world is to be completed within 50 years, major resource commitments must be made immediately. Such a goal can be achieved only if an ambitious timetable of interim goals is met. Failure to begin building the equipment, establishing the infrastructure, and educating people in the skills needed in a solar era will only increase the cost and disruption of the transition and decrease the likelihood of its completion within five decades.
Meeting five-sixths of the anticipated world energy budget in the year 2025 with solar technologies could involve using more than 70 billion square meters of solar collectors and 7.5 million megawatts of solar cells. World hydroelectric capacity would be quadrupled, five million wind turbines would be constructed, and about 15 percent of the world's forests would be devoted to raising wood as an "energy crop." Commitments of this magnitude are certainly possible over a
